Called the Argentine the GOAT
Argentina’s World Cup triumph was the final title Lionel Messi had yet to win. After the triumph, many of his fans considered the debate over who is the best in history to be settled.
Even for FIFA, it seems that the debate is closed as this was expressed in a controversial tweet that was soon attacked, to the point of having to be removed.
With the euphoria of the final in full swing, FIFA posted a tweet to praise Messi‘s career.
“The GOAT debate is settled,” the tweet started.
“The ultimate prize is now part of the collection. The legacy is complete.”
It didn’t take long for the tweet to be flooded with comments criticizing FIFA, especially from fans of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Many do not consider Messi to be the best in history and were not amused that the highest international football body thought they spoke for everyone.
That wasn’t the only tweet from FIFA that people didn’t like. In another case, they posted a tweet about Cristiano Ronaldo that they also had to delete.
They attached the caption “thumbs up if you really enjoyed the World Cup” to a picture of the Portuguese forward.
His followers came then came to a fierce defense of their idol, who didn’t have a good tournament in Qatar, meaning the tweet was viewed as potentially being sarcastic.
