Apatow stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to talk about her stint as the newest Audrey Off-Broadway.
Maude Apatow, currently starring as Audrey in the Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon March 6 to discuss her move to New York, and how she has been settling into a theatrical schedule.
While many actors prefer to not know if any celebrities are in the audience prior to a performance, Apatow gets a heads up from her stage management team to prevent any surprises.
“The theatre is small, and you can see everyone,” said Apatow, referring to the intimate nature of the Westside Theatre. “If someone randomly appeared in the audience, it would throw me if I didn’t know.”
When Fallon asked her to elaborate, Apatow confessed “My favorite show is Catfish on MTV. I’ve watched every episode multiple times, and Nev (Schulman) from Catfish came, and I was freaking out. And then he came back again with his kids! He was sitting in the second row, and I was dying.”
Additionally, Apatow shared her theatrical superstitions, which extend to both her preshow and intermission routines. “Before Act 2, I have to touch the plants lips with both hands,” Apatow explained, laughing. “I don’t know how that started, but now I really can’t stop doing it.”
Watch the video of her appearance above to learn which adult musical fascinated her in childhood, how her cat is travelling in style, and to get a glimpse of one of her co-stars when they decided to crash the interview to celebrate their birthday.
